Maranoa Ward takes it name from the native garden established by John Middleton Watson on land he bought in the early 1890s.
He named the gardens Maranoa after a river in Queensland, from an Indigenous word meaning flowing, alive or running.
This map shows the Maranoa Ward including, parks and reserves, community facilities, shopping strips and cafes.

I advocated for the new Balwyn Road pedestrian crossing to enable people to walk safely between the Gordon Barnard Reserve (including the JJ McMahon Memorial Kindergarten) and Hislop Reserve.
The crossing has been built but its not yet connected to power.
This crossing was also designed as a connection for the Glass Creek Trail that would provide a safe path for students at Balwyn North Primary, Greythorn Primary, Balwyn High and Kew High to walk or ride to school.
Unfortunately, the previous Council removed this trail from the 2022-2032 Boroondara Bike Strategy.
