I spoke at the City of Boroondara Council Urban Planning Delegated Committee Meeting on 7 October about the Victorian state government’s latest contentious plan for Camberwell Junction Activity Centre.
I strongly supported the Council Officer's recommendations to the meeting.
The very short engagement process with the community is not acceptable.
I don't support the proposed significant changes to the Planning Scheme as they stand because the impacts on and outcomes in the "Camberwell Junction catchment area" around the Camberwell Junction Activity Centre are ill defined and unclear.
It is unclear how the "streamlined planning process" will work.
I requested that urgent meetings be sought with the Victorian Planning Minister to raise community concerns about the poor consultation regarding changes to the planning scheme for Camberwell Junction.
My question was eventually answered after Cr Franco and Cr Hollingsworth both followed up about requested meetings with Sonya Kilkenny, the Minister for Planning.
Phillip Storer (Boroondara CEO) advised that a meeting was scheduled for 24 October but that was been rescheduled to the first week of December.
My contributions start at 25:45 in the video recording of the meeting
The Boroondara Structure and Place Plan for Camberwell Junction includes providing 1,500 additional dwellings located in multilevel buildings constructed over existing open air car parks.
Residents value heritage buildings in heritage overlays around Camberwell Junction and elsewhere in Boroondara - these areas should be preserved
Higher density housing can be provided along main roads close to public transport - e.g. Whitehorse Road and Burke Road.
